Find public profile clues in photos and screenshots

TraceSeek can use image similarity and OCR, which reads visible text in an image, to search for public image appearances and related social content. The useful next step is to open the source page and see what the match actually supports.

Try this feature in TraceSeek

DateClues promotes our TraceSeek app. Searches take place in the app; check current availability and paid-access terms in your store.

Start with

Single images, batches of images or screenshots that you are permitted to share with the service.

What to review

Matching or related public pages and text-based profile clues.

Keep in mind

OCR can misread text, and a similar image is not proof of identity. A screenshot may contain several authors, quoted words or an unrelated watermark.

  1. Keep the relevant context

Use only an image you may share with the search service. Remove unrelated private messages or personal details, while retaining the public attribution needed to understand it.

  2. Check text and visual matches separately

Compare extracted usernames and phrases with the original. For an image result, distinguish the same image from a merely similar subject.

  3. Follow the source to the profile

Inspect who posted the material and whether the page actually links to a public profile. Reposting, quoting and appearing in a photo are different relationships.

Before you begin

Is OCR the same as facial recognition?

No. OCR extracts visible characters. Image similarity compares visual material. Neither, by itself, confirms the identity of a person in a photo.

Can a screenshot lead to the wrong account?

Yes. Reply headers, quoted posts, watermarks and OCR mistakes can point to a different account. Check the original text and source attribution before combining results.
