THE SHORT ANSWER

Ask whether they mean a different visible label or a different account. Reddit says a finalized username cannot be changed, including its capitalization, and that people can create another account with a new username. That rule helps clarify the account story; it does not establish why a person uses a pseudonym or prove deception in a relationship.

Use the narrow rule Reddit actually states

Reddit's help page says finalized usernames cannot be renamed and deleted usernames do not become available again. It also allows people to create a new account while retaining another one. This is an account-management rule. It should not be expanded into an assertion that every different-looking profile is impersonation, or that a person with more than one account has broken a relationship agreement. Turn an ambiguous rename into a specific question

Use neutral wording: 'When you say you renamed it, do you mean the label I see changed, or that you started another account?' Ask for the public link they intended to share, if they are comfortable sharing one. You do not need their email address, login details or a list of other accounts. If they prefer not to connect a pseudonymous account with their dating profile, consider that boundary separately from whether you want to continue the conversation.

Keep the possible explanations separate

DateClues uses the following comparison to prevent an interface detail from becoming a personal accusation. It is an editorial worksheet, not a detection test.

What was said or seenQuestion to resolveWhat the observation cannot establish
'I renamed my account'Which account field or account changed? The person's motive
A different public account linkWas a new account created? That both accounts belong to the same person
An old link no longer opensWhat current link did they mean to share? Why the old page is unavailable

Compare only the public account you were given

If you choose to view it, compare the account identifier and the public context relevant to the claim. A similar avatar or anecdote is not enough to link separate pseudonyms. Do not infer a real-world identity from sensitive posts, attempt to discover a private email or ask community members to identify someone. A search result can remain a possible match. It is reasonable to stop before collecting information that has no bearing on your next dating decision.

Record clarification rather than a verdict

A useful result might read: 'The person clarified that they created a new account; ownership has not been independently established.' If the explanation remains unclear, say so instead. TraceSeek, promoted by DateClues under the same operator, can be considered for public username or image clues within its actual scope. No result should be treated as a promise to connect anonymous Reddit accounts, uncover someone's private identity or determine fidelity. Direct communication remains the appropriate next step for a relationship agreement.

A couple more questions

Can a finalized Reddit username be changed just by altering capitalization?

Reddit says no. Its rule includes capitalization. Ask which label or account the person actually meant.

Does having another Reddit account prove someone is cheating?

No. Account structure does not establish a relationship agreement or whether it was broken. Do not turn a public account clue into that claim.
