THE SHORT ANSWER

Do not search the name above a forwarded Discord item as though it identifies the original author. Discord forwards omit that author and do not update after later edits. Separate the forwarding account, the received copy and any accessible current public original. Only an account field actually shown with that original can become a candidate for the original-source question.

Read the screenshot’s fields before copying a name

Start with the item your dating contact voluntarily shared. Identify the forwarding account, the Forwarded marker, the included photo or text, and any source destination. Discord says a forward includes the content without showing the original author. A name inside the photo or quoted text is not automatically an author label. Check OCR characters against the image and identify their field first. [Message Forwarding]

Choose the result that matches what you have

Discord shows the source link only to viewers with the relevant access, or when the server is public. It leads to a message, not automatically to a profile. For this check, use only an original already publicly available to you; do not join a server or request access. [Message Forwarding]

What you haveWhat to recordNext step
Only the forwarded item or its screenshotThe forwarding account and received copy; original author unavailableDo not invent an original-author username from nearby text.
A matching current public originalThe original URL, viewing date and clearly labeled account field, separately from the forwarderUse that actual account field as a candidate clue, if it identifies an account rather than just a display name.
A public original with different contentThe received copy and current source as two separate observationsDescribe the difference before deciding which version answers your question.

Keep an old forward separate from a current post

Discord describes a forward as a copy made at forwarding time: later edits to the original do not update it. If the copies differ, retain both rather than replacing the received wording with today’s version. Note when you received the copy and viewed the source. Later editing is one possible explanation, not a finding about this message or anyone’s intentions. [Message Forwarding]

Carry only the supported clue into a profile search

Retain an account username only if the public original clearly supplies that field. A display name stays a display name; a message link is not an account identifier. Public image search may find appearances of the shared image, but cannot assign them to the forwarder or prove profile ownership.

Resolve the specific question, then stop

If your question was “Did my date write this?”, a forward alone has not answered it. A current public source can show which account presents that post while its relationship to your contact remains unresolved. Ask your existing contact about the specific source or version if it matters. A missing or private original is a valid stopping point.

A couple more questions

Is the name above a forwarded item the original author?

Not on that basis. Discord omits the original author from the forward. Keep the forwarding account separate and use an already available public original only if it actually supplies a relevant account field.

Does a difference between the forward and the original mean the screenshot is fake?

No. Discord forwards do not update after later edits to the original. Record the two versions separately; a difference alone does not establish its cause.
