Keep each username beside its visible label before using OCR text in a public-profile search. Friends can show a creator, someone who publicly interacted, or a Blend recommendation. A Blend label names a recommendation recipient; it does not show that account liked or watched the item. If the username is the one your date already shared, it remains a possible lookup input, but its role must stay attached. Do not substitute an unrelated creator’s handle for your date’s.

Preserve the words around the username
Use the non-sensitive screenshot voluntarily shared with you, keeping its author line and action or recommendation label visible. Compare OCR text with that exact image region. A correctly transcribed username can still belong to the wrong account role. If only a face or an isolated name survives the crop, mark the role unresolved; do not fill it in from resemblance.
Read three roles separately
Instagram documents Friends in Reels as including content friends created, liked, reposted or commented on, alongside recommendations from Blends. Public reposts credit the original poster. Blend’s own label identifies whom a Reel was recommended for. These are different relationships between an account and a piece of content. | Visible element | Limited reading | Lookup consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Author credit | The account credited with the content | Keep it as the content source; do not assume it is your date |
| Liked, reposted or commented label | The screenshot attributes that public action to the named account | Record the actor separately from the creator |
| Blend recommendation label | The account receiving a recommendation | Do not convert it into a like, view or relationship claim |
| No readable label | The account’s role is unresolved | Do not choose a person to search from the face alone |
Choose the relevant input, then preserve its role
Compare the visible username with the exact handle your date already provided. The same known account could be a creator, an actor or a recommendation recipient; the role does not make its handle unusable. It limits what the screenshot says about that handle. Use only the relevant, already-held identifier for a public-profile comparison. Keep an unrelated creator’s credit as a source reference instead of treating it as another account owned by your date.
- Copy the exact visible username and the label beside it.
- Note whether it matches the handle already shared in your conversation.
- Keep any public result separate from account ownership, current activity or relationship conclusions.
A worked role note
In this hypothetical example, your date has shared the handle @example_date. A screenshot credits @example_creator and labels the Reel as recommended for @example_date. Your note should name the creator as the content source and @example_date as the recommendation recipient. You may compare the already-shared handle with public results, but the recommendation label supplies no evidence that your date liked, watched or contacted the creator. A matching photo or username also does not verify who controls either account.
End at the available context
If the label is cropped or the handle cannot be read, ask one question about the image you were given or leave the role unresolved. Blend is an opt-in feed accessed through direct-message chats; this guide is not a reason to request entry, private screenshots or viewing history. Public-profile search cannot recover those private details, and an absent interaction label does not establish that no interaction ever occurred. [Instagram Reels Blend launch]
A couple more questions
Does a Blend recommendation mean my date interacted with that Reel?
No. The label identifies the recommendation recipient. It does not itself establish a like, view, message or other interaction.
Can I use a username that appears on a recommendation label?
Yes, if it is a relevant handle already provided by your date. Keep the recommendation role in your notes; do not treat the label as evidence of interaction or substitute an unrelated creator’s account.
Why is accurate OCR not enough?
OCR can read the correct characters from the wrong part of the screenshot. Check the surrounding label and author line before deciding whose public profile the text refers to.
