THE SHORT ANSWER

In Preview on Mac, select the PDF page you are permitted to use, choose File > Export, and save it in an image format such as PNG. Keep the PDF source and page number beside the exported image as your own record. TraceSeek supports image inputs, including screenshots; check the current accepted formats before submitting the exported image. This preparation does not establish direct PDF support. DateClues provides guidance and store links rather than a browser upload tool.

Choose the page and keep its source

Start with a PDF you are permitted to use. Identify the one page containing the relevant public image or text, and write down its page number and the document source. Keep the original PDF unchanged. If the document is locked or the material is private, stop instead of looking for a way around that restriction.

Export the selected page in Preview

Apple documents this workflow in Preview on Mac: open the PDF, choose View > Thumbnails, select the page in the sidebar, then choose File > Export. Give the file a name, choose a save location, and select an image format such as PNG from the Format menu. This is a file-preparation step in Preview; it does not establish that the PDF content is authentic. [Apple Preview: extract a PDF page as an image]

Make a small source note

Before doing anything else with the image, open it and check that it contains the intended page. Keep a note with the original document label, selected page number and exported filename. For example, a hypothetical public event brochure could be recorded as brochure, page three, working image. This is your own organization method, not a claim that any tool preserves PDF metadata automatically.

Keep with the imageWhy it helps
Original document sourceReturn to the context around the selected page
Selected page numberDistinguish this input from another page in the same PDF
Exported filenameAttach later references to the image actually used

Treat any match as similarity only

If a separate tool returns a close match, treat it as similarity or as a suggestion that the image appears elsewhere. A match concerns the prepared page image; it does not authenticate the original document, confirm identity, or establish who operates a profile. If no usable tool or source is available, record that limit and stop rather than assuming the PDF itself can be searched. [TraceSeek: product overview and operator-confirmed capabilities]

A couple more questions

Does this mean DateClues accepts PDF uploads or image uploads?

No. This workflow prepares an image outside the App. DateClues provides guidance and app-store links, not a browser-based image-upload or live search service.

Should I remove the source note after a match?

Keep it with your own review. It connects the result to the selected page and lets you revisit surrounding context in the original document.

What if I cannot open or export the PDF?

Stop at that access or format limit. Do not bypass a document restriction or substitute a similar-looking page as though it were the original.
