THE SHORT ANSWER

Pick one already-known X handle and one phrase from a public post you already observed. Use X's Words field, which includes an exact-phrase option, and its People fields for posts from, replies to, and mentions of an account. Open the matching public item and record the visible author and the field that returned it. If the source, field, or author label is unavailable, leave the role unresolved.

Start with one existing public claim, not the whole relationship

Before interpreting a relationship statement, isolate one public claim you want to check: for example, a post you saw that appears to involve your date's handle. Note the exact wording, the account name shown on the post, and the handle you were voluntarily given. The goal is limited: decide which role that handle played in that single result. This keeps the check tied to one observable item instead of building a narrative from a feed. [How to use advanced search]

Use the native people fields to separate the search angles

X documents that Words and People fields can be combined, and that Words includes an exact-phrase field. Keep the already-observed phrase in the Words field, then place the known handle in one People field at a time: posts from the account, replies to it, or posts mentioning it. Keep the phrase unchanged between these checks so the task stays about that one item. Do not put the phrase in a People field or remove it to browse the account's history. The documented advanced-search interface requires being signed into X.com. [How to use advanced search]

Open the result and record the author on the page

A search hit is not itself proof of who wrote the words. A People field narrows candidates; the visible author label is confirmed only by opening the returned post. Write down what you saw: the author shown, the replying-to line if present, and whether the handle appears only inside the post text or mention line. If the opened page does not show the same wording, or the result is a quote or repost, record that difference instead of smoothing it over.

The post appears under the handle's own posts field. The field supplies a candidate from that account; it does not identify the human author or explain the words.Open the post and record the account shown as its author; do not turn that label into proof that your date personally wrote it.
The post appears in the replies-to field.A reply is a response to the account, not necessarily written by it.Read the visible author and reply line; do not read the reply as the date's own words.
The handle appears in a post returned by the mention field. The field shows the handle string was included in a returned post; it does not show authorship by your date or that the post was directed at them.Open the post, read the author and any mention line, and record it as a mention without inferring intent.

Avoid reconstructing a relationship from replies or mentions

A reply directed at an account and a mention inside another person's post are different observations from a post written by that account. They can show that a handle was addressed or named, but they do not establish closeness, conflict, or romantic intent. Do not treat a reply chain, a mention, or a public profile link as evidence of private behavior. Keep the field and visible author label you confirmed separate from any interpretation of the relationship. [How to use advanced search]

Keep the result unresolved when the source is missing

If the public post is deleted, the people fields are unavailable to you, or the opened page does not show the wording you searched, do not fill the gap with a guess. Mark the role as unresolved and say which step failed: the field was unavailable, the result did not open, or the author label was unclear. This is more useful than a confident misattribution and avoids turning a missing source into a relationship claim. You can revisit the same public item later if it reappears.

  • Write down whether the matching people field was available.
  • Note the handle and date of your check.
  • If anything was missing or ambiguous, label the role unresolved rather than inferred.

A couple more questions

Does a mention of my date's handle mean they were part of the conversation?

Not by itself. A mention-field hit shows the handle appeared in a returned post. It does not show that your date wrote the words, agreed with them, or had any private exchange. Record it as a mention and keep it separate from any statement about the relationship.

Can I use these people fields to see what my date is doing on X?

No. The people fields return public search results tied to a handle string. They are not a way to observe private behavior, and a search result should be treated as one public item with a visible author, not as a monitoring signal.

What if the people fields are not available to me?

Use only the options shown in your own signed-in interface and note which one you used. The documented advanced-search interface requires being signed into X.com. If the field you need is not available, leave the role unresolved rather than substituting a free-text search.
